“Some Americans, however, are still wary of what’s next,” says Nichols. “Less than half of those surveyed, 49 and 46% respectively, said they’re feeling peaceful and relaxed about 2017.”

The report goes on to say that “…55% of people said they think 2017 will be better than 2016…but were not optimistic about America or the rest of the world… 81% of Americans said they’re concerned about the nation’s political atmosphere and 64% reported being worried about world affairs… 87% of women are concerned about domestic politics compared with 74% men… (and) 71% of people ages 30-44 reported being worried about the political atmosphere in the U.S., the lowest among all age groups.”

Respondents overall are optimistic about next year, with 59% saying they anticipate doing better financially in 2017.

Nichols concludes, noting that “…only 33% of people said they have a specific resolution for 2017… those who are making a resolution…  want to take better care of themselves physically, financially and emotionally… 62% said losing weight is a goal for the new year… and 85% said they are focused on staying fit and healthy… 81% of people want to spend less money and save more… while 79% of people want to spend more time with their friends and family.”
